Hope Lives Here??? Maybe not so much

What a beautiful motto for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Hope lives Here, don't you think? It would lead a parent to believe that all children will be given the best care regardless of circumstances.

Quality of life~who decides?
Imagine you go to the hospital where the doctors, staff and facility are highly regarded, the best! You walk in terrified as it is....your child needs a life saving kidney transplant.
NO QUALITY OF LIFE is what the doctors declares. They will not perform the surgery b/c this precious child has "no quality of life", are you kidding me? Who are they to say this?

This is the exact nightmare the Rivera family is living.
Their daughter, Amelia was born with Wolf~hirschhorn syndrome, caused by a deletion of genetic material near the end of the short (p) arm of chromosome 4. She was not denied a transplant b/c she does not have a donor, she does. She has insurance as well (not that it should matter).
She is denied because her IQ is not up to the standard some idiot decided upon. Forgive me if I sound disgusted but this is disgusting. Someone decided that if an individual's IQ is not "high enough" they will not have a HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE hence they are not eligible for organ transplants.... again who the hell is to decide this?

Does this make me sad? it does. More than sad it angers me! If my son was to, God forbid need a transplant this means he could be denied. SICKENING!

This is 2012 and we livein America.....let's get it right!!

Please go to the CHOP fb page and let them know how wrong this is, we have to support this family and precious little girl who is so worthy of life... you would want others to do this for you if it were your child wouldn't you?

As for you CHOP: so much for being the best. You need to educate yourselves and think about what "quality of life" truly means. This sickens me and I pray you reverse your decision.
